Variable Area Flow Meter

A tapered tube and a float are used by a Variable Area Flow Meter, commonly referred to as a rotameter, to measure fluid flow. The float rises to a point where the flow area between the float and the tube wall equals the flow rate as fluid passes through the tapered tube. The flow rate is indicated by the height of the float, which is measured and compared to a calibrated scale on the meter. This kind of meter is prized for being straightforward, simple to operate, and able to show flow rate visually. It is frequently used to measure liquid and gas flows in a variety of industries.
