The parallelism and flatness of a micrometer's measuring face can be measured using optical parallels, which are made of optical-grade glass. On micrometres, an optical parallel may determine surface parallelism within 0.2µm/.0000008" and flatness within 0.1µm/.000004" when employed with monochromatic light. In our Japanese manufacturers, our optical parallels are precision polished and lapped for outstanding flatness.
