Pump - Fluid-raising, transporting, or compressing machine that consumes energy. Pumps are classed according to how much energy they deliver to the fluid. Volume displacement, kinetic energy addition, and the utilisation of electromagnetic force are the three primary ways. Positive displacement pumps are those that achieve displacement by mechanical means. Kinetic pumps use a quickly revolving impeller to transfer kinetic energy to the fluid (blade). The fluid being pumped must be a good electrical conductor in order to apply electromagnetic force.
