A set of parts intended to maintain or repair a ratchet mechanism is called a ratchet repair kit. In socket wrenches and other tools, for example, ratchets are mechanical parts that only permit motion in one direction. They are usually employed to transfer rotating motion. Ratchets may become worn out or malfunction over time as a result of heavy use or neglect.
