To measure the distance between two opposing sides of an object, precision measuring instruments such as calipers and caliper gauges are employed. Although they have comparable functions, their designs and applications are different.Caliper gauges are specialist instruments made especially for measuring the internal and external dimensions of things. They are also referred to as caliper-type gauges or internal/external calipers.
Usually, they are made up of two moving or fixed jaws or arms that are attached to a dial indication or digital display.
There are many different types of caliper gauges available. For example, inner calipers are used to measure internal dimensions like a hole's diameter, while outside calipers are used to measure external dimensions like a cylindrical object's diameter.
